About Cosmos, the Machine

• Motherboard/processor/memory: Intel D845GVSR motherboard, Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz processor, 256 MB RAM
• Storage: Maxtor 200 GB IDE hard drive
• Backup: 2 ea. SimpleTech 160 GB external USB hard drives, plugged in when needed
• Networking: Intel Pro/100 VE (built into motherboard) connected to internal LAN; 3Com 3C905B EtherLink XL connected to internet
• Operating system: FreeBSD, one of several free Unix variants for the Intel x86 platform
• Power Protection: APC SmartUPS 750 connected via serial cable to the machine; upsmond running on the server to monitor power events

Current operating system version is: FreeBSD 6.3-STABLE

Cosmos currently servers as a DNS and Web server for a small handful of domains, including the GazFam (Gazaway Family) web site run by a friend of the owner, and the JUULtones web site run by the owner's sister. It is owned by Bryce Newall. The machine is located at the owner's home in Chula Vista, CA, and is connected via cable modem with Cox Business Services.
